GALLINA CÁNTABRA

 "THE CANTABRA BREED STANDARD"

     ORIGEN AND GENERAL FEATURES:

The origen of the "CANTABRA" hen with its cuckoo plumage and Atlantic line is from Cantabria. It is also extended by Asturias, The Basque Country, some parts of Galicia and North of León and Palencia.

The main location of this breed is in Cantabria, central and eastern part of Asturias and western part of Vizcaya.

Nowadays, a few breeders of this hen can be found in Cantabria, Vizcaya and Asturias. It is in this last province that it is also know as Franciscana, and in Palencia or León as Pedresa, Pedreguesa or Empedrada.

At the moment, some breeders work and select the Cantabra with the main purpose of keeping and setting up its characteristic cuckoo plumage.

It is a rather big bird with a double alptitude: eggs and meat.

ORIGEN: Cantabria - Spain.

GENERAL IMPRESSION: Bulky breed, horizontal position, well developed muscles, prominent breast, single comb, high tail and yellow shanks.
